In years past, when a tooth was missing, the only choice was to place a bridge or if there was not a tooth availible to support a bridge, simply go without a tooth. Partial dentures were an option, but for a single missing tooth that would mean a mouthful of metal framework for just one tooth.
Dental implants solve this problem. A new root is placed, and after the body bonds to it a crown can be placed. This does take time, but for the few short months that are required to bond a temporary device can be placed. When all is said and done, the investment of both time and money result in the longest lasting restoration in dentistry.
