Dr Timmerman believes that a comfortable visit is a happy visit. Some people just need a “little something” to make it all run smoothly, whether it is a gag reflex, a bad memory, or just simply… because.
Nitrous oxide is not something to simply toss around. It is a sedative hypnotic drug, meaning it might make you distracted by the office visit, but it won’t “put you out”. Once the visit is over, the gas dissipates quickly, allowing you to resume your life with little effect.

It’s interesting. With all of the advancements and technological breakthroughs in dentistry, the focus has been on esthetics and mimicking nature. “Life-like” crowns have been the goal.
There is nothing wrong with that. But the materials themselves will always have a drawback or “acceptable risk”. Porcelains are layered, pressed from a solid material or milled from a block, but can chip or break. This doesn’t always happen, but it can.
Another material that has been around for a VERY long time is gold. A gold crown, while not “esthetic” will likely last much longer than the alternative. Gold crowns don’t chip. Gold crowns don’t break. The material is biocompatible (a fancy way of saying the body won’t reject it).
So if you are wanting a restoration that will last as long as possible (nothing lasts forever), consider gold. Some teeth are so far back that there is very little compelling reason to NOT place a gold crown. In some areas, gold is a sign of affluence, so you might even climb a social ladder…! (Just kidding…)

Ask Dr Timmerman. Nobody likes the term “root canal”. Images of sadistic torture come to mind. But modern dentistry is different than what is seen in the movies. Quite often patients remark at the end of their appointment, “When do you start?” or even more common, “That’s IT?”
When you have a toothache, you NEED a dentist. But what exactly IS a root canal? For lack of a better description, it is simply cleaning out the center of the tooth of all infection and replacing the space with a biocompatible (body likes it) material for strength. Out with the bad, in with the good.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a toothache, call 206-241-5533 and let us help!
It may seem like an obvious answer (call me MOTO: Master of the Obvious), but nothing lasts forever.
Dental work is no exception and when deciding how to invest in your health, longevity should be considered. What lasts for decades with one person may not with another (usually not). Mileage will vary based on many factors, including bite forces, habits, diet and trauma/accidents.
As a rule, more “expensive” dental work is actually cheaper, when looking at “the big picture”. An example would be dental implants. The fee for one tooth may be a few thousand dollars by the time the work is done. The alternative MAY be root canal therapy, post, build up and crown that is a few hundred (several hundred?) dollars less. While the cost TODAY is less, if looked at through a 25 year window it may be more.
Statistics will tell us that the cheaper method will likely need replacement in 10-15 years, while the implant is still going strong. The cost for dental care in 15 years will be considerably more than today when figuring inflation and newer materials (remember how much you paid for your first car? Your first house?).
While nothing lasts forever, when investing in dental care quite often the higher fee option has greater benefits.
Dr Timmerman is often mistaken as a specialist in cosmetic dentistry. This is not true. In fact, there is no such specialty as a cosmetic dentist. However, Dr Timmerman is very proud of the services he provides, and often there is an esthetic or cosmetic value to his care.
Having said that, Dr Timmerman is a regular “family dentist”. He offers cleanings and fillings like most offices, but has the ability to offer more, if desired. So if you would like the benefit of a dentist that is internationally known for his cosmetic dentistry, yet are only needing regular general dental care, call 206-241-5533 and make an appointment!
It happens to all of us. We put it off. Life is too busy. The kids have soccer practice. I just don’t WANT to…
And then it happens. The tooth we were warned about finally starts to hurt. Yet it hurts worse than they said… NOW what?
Sometimes you just need to talk to someone and find out what to do next. Call 206-241-5533 and see how we can help. Our office always is able to see emergencies, to at LEAST take a look and do something to “take the edge off” and buy some time. It might be simple… You won’t know until you call.
Dr Timmerman noticed recently, in talking to his patients, that we having painted an incomplete picture of who we are and what we do. While we take great pride in helping people get the smile that they have wanted for many years, we also offer the full set of general dental services expected from a general dental office. We are conveniently located near an interstate off-ramp, so it is common for us to see patients from Seattle, Tukwila, Burien, Federal Way, Kent and Renton.
Many people have felt that even for general dental care they desired the comforts and experience of a cosmetic office. Come find out what the difference is! Give us a call at 206-241-5533!
